Digital World is the Real World
Digital World is the Real World

Patriot Family,

As we draw closer to the introduction of our 1:1 Initiative, this is a GREAT time to address the issue of digital citizenship with our children and students.  This is an increasingly important and critical topic in today’s society, and our students MUST know that the way they portray themselves on line could impact them for the rest of their lives.  This is not hyperbole—the news is filled with stories of someone facing backlash for a post they put online years ago, especially through the various social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.).

Resources to help start and guide those important conversations are available for parents and teachers on the Jefferson County Schools Digital Citizenship webpages.

Let’s have these conversations early and often with our children and students.  Many adults simply don’t know how to address this topic with children and teens, because today’s technology simply didn’t exist when they were teenagers.  Working together with our students and their families, we can make a positive impact in our community and the world.
